Position title: Plant Manager

Functional area: Operations

Reports to: VP of Operations


Oversee and manage overall operations for the plant, including safety, quality, engineering, production, process analysis and shipping/receiving.  Develop team of functional managers and supervisors through coaching and mentoring.  Manage, develop and lead staff in meeting or exceeding their functional area goals for quality, productivity, food safety, worker safety and financial performance.  This position has overall responsibility for managing budget and controlling manufacturing costs at assigned location.



  • Provide leadership for employees through effective communication, coaching, training and development.  Define future state, set operational goals, communicate goals with management and supervisory staff, gain support and commitment.  Ensure functional area goals are aligned to operational goals.  Act as model of Blommer’s core values in the treatment of employees and customers.  Measure staff against core values and ensure commitment and accountability.
  • Ensure understanding and appropriate policy deployment in areas of safety, continuous improvement, quality, cost reduction, customer satisfaction, employee relations, and performance measures.  Provide ongoing assessment and feedback to staff regarding performance against goals/expectations.  Ensure all employees are properly trained in work activities and provide opportunities for stretch goals and continued development of team.
  • Conduct and facilitate regularly scheduled meetings to ensure effective interdepartmental coordination and communication between departments/shifts to ensure people understand status of production, downtime, scheduled repairs, etc.  Work with managers and supervisors to solve problems in a timely, proactive fashion.  Use internal resources of engineering, maintenance, quality, safety, human resources.  Support problem solving and decisions with data, investigation and discussion.
  • Provide input and leadership in company-wide improvement initiatives and share best and worst practices with colleagues to enhance quality, ensure timeliness and minimize cost.  Assist management team in the installation of new initiatives and processes to enhance functional areas.
  • Establish and monitor plant performance metrics against defined expectations.  Review metrics to evaluate operational effectiveness.  Meet with functional area leads to address areas/opportunities for continuous improvement.  Develop and actively manage action plan for those areas and personnel not meeting expectations.  Coordinate plant activities with production manager to ensure manufacturing objectives are met in a timely and cost-effective manner and worker safety and food safety are maintained.
  • Review departmental budgets and capital improvement plans and activities.  Evaluate and recommend future production equipment installations with engineering and maintenance input.  Ensure proper project management tools are utilized and timelines/budgets are met.
  • Ensure consistent compliance with customer standards, safety/OSHA and quality standards/HACCP and GMP standards.

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations, engineering, food technology or related field
    • Requires Infrequent Travel (10-20%)


  • Ten years manufacturing management experience as operations, production or plant manager
  • Inventory management knowledge
  • Knowledge and application of lean tools, statistical tools, root cause analysis, failure mode & effect analysis, statistics
    • Working knowledge of financial spreadsheets and budgets
